Bond denied for former Boca officer accused of stalking woman
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer 4:47 p.m Wednesday, June 29, 2016 Palm Beach County Crime
A former Boca Raton police officer who has been convicted at least once of domestic battery is now being held without bail for aggravated stalking.
Brian Frederick Duffner, 58, sent a woman with whom he once was in a relationship more than 1,000 text messages within a month — some claiming affection, others attacking her and at least one of them an unsolicited sexually explicit photo, court records show.
Judge Caroline Shepherd’s decision to deny Duffner bail came after pleas from the woman whom he reportedly had been stalking. She told Shepherd that the Martin County resident has left her terrified.
“For the past week, I have not been able to live in my house,” the woman said Wednesday at a first-appearance hearing at the Palm Beach County Jail.Duffner is now a real-estate agent, but from December 1981 until May 1985, he worked for the Boca Raton Police Services Department, public records show. “That’s how he knows how to torture me,” the woman said outside the courtroom Wednesday.
